Birdsong New Music Foundation is a registered Canadian charity (777564873RR0001) founded to honor the spirit and memory of Canadian musician, John David Martin-Konopacki, (1987-2017). Due to a sense of hopelessness and feeling stigmatized due to his struggles with mental illness (bipolar and substance use disorder), David exited at the too early age of 30.
Founded by David’s mother, Margaret Konopacki, Birdsong is dedicated to helping others like David find a way out of the darkness of a life with mental illness. David had a deep love of songwriting and a passion for performing. Writing songs and performing were his safe places. Helping others with the same passions as David, Birdsong hopes to tap into the healing power of music by giving people an outlet to create and a platform to feel heard. Applicants accepted into our program are given access to professional recording studios, producers and a community of musicians who want to help. All at no charge to the applicant.
